You are smart. You are a leader. So you should be able to figure it all out, right?
Probably. Mostly.
But a coach helps you with things you can’t easily do yourself.
For example, an executive coach, working with you individually:
- Helps you see the wood for the trees. Instead of staying mired in details, problems and drama, you have a regular opportunity to step away from the daily swirl, and get to choose a more strategic approach
- Gathers 360 feedback for you, and helps you discern what’s useful and what to do with it
- Acts as a mirror, and reveals your blind spots
- Increases your capacity for self-awareness and emotional self-regulation, which are at the heart of authentic leadership
- Helps you articulate and refine who you are as a leader, what you stand for, and your most important values and priorities
- Acts as a sounding board and offers a fresh perspective, a different point of view, to complement and broaden your own
- Provokes new insights and shifts in mindset that can lead to new behaviors and better results in all areas: managing yourself, your team or your business
- Accelerates your development as a leader by encouraging you to experiment, reflect and grow, and offering you tips, tools, and the breadth and depth of their experience
- Helps you anticipate, strategize and plan, and keeps you on track to accomplish business and personal goals
- Encourages you to think bigger, act more boldly, and realize greater possibilities than you would on your own.
Having the right “chemistry” with your executive coach, and being open and willing to “go on the journey” can be an enjoyable and enlightening experience.
